Wine: This Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir) has a full bodied elegance and cool minerality. It's character is reflective of the Ahr region's terroir, with a fresh acidity and certain saltiness. Vineyard: VDP.Erste Lage (Premier Cru) Dernauer Hardtberg vineyard produces outstanding and long-lasting wines. The distinctive terroir delivers a Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir) with a unique and characterful profile. The VDP.Erste Lage Dernauer Hardtberg is characterised by steep, south to south-east facing slopes that have a gradient of up to 60% creating optimal exposure to the sun. Rising to 250 metres above sea level, the name "Hardt" refers to a hilltop or ridge. The site, in the Dernau valley basin, has heat retaining slate-rich soil that creates an almost Mediterranean microclimate. This means that the narrow valley heats up quickly, providing an ideal habitat for the vines to flourish. Meyer-Näkel deliberately keep the yields here low. As a result, the Dernauer Hardtberg Spätburgunder Premier Cru dry promises an impressive taste experience. Vinification: The sustainably managed vineyard, consistent yield reduction and gentle hard harvesting are pre-requistes for this wine. In the cellar, traditional methods preserve the quality achieved in the vineyard. The grapes are fermented on the mash with natural yeasts for a period of approximately 18 days. Maturation takes place on the fine lees in 2-4 year barriques (oak barrles) for approximately 16 months. This gives the wine an elegant tannin structure from the wood, without masking the typical mineral, finesse-rich character of the wine. Alcohol: 13,0% vol. Res. sugar: 0,1 g/l Acidity: 5,2 g/l
