Poster featuring the coat of arms of Dalarna from the work Suecia Antiqua et Hodierna, created during the second half of the 17th century by Erik Dahlbergh — one of the most distinguished image-makers of Sweden's Age of Greatness. In the provincial coat of arms we see an ox, placed beneath a crown. At the very bottom of the image appears the Latin title “Insigne Comitatus Daaliae,” which roughly means “the county arms of Dalarna.” The raised crown lends the motif a solemn and official expression, while the ox is emphasized as an independent heraldic symbol. The composition connects to the older Swedish pictorial tradition surrounding provincial and county arms, where the heraldic animal is often presented monumentally and with restraint against a classical background. Frame not included. Please note that the images are cropped slightly differently depending on the size you choose. Read more about image and print quality here: FAQ.
