Namakubi 生首 - "freshly-severed head" is a grotesque and brutal Japanese motif that frightens and shocks onlookers. It first appeared in ukiyo-e (woodblock prints) from the Edo period (1603-1868) and is still found in traditional Japanese irezumi (tattoos) today. Bajutsu (馬術) is a form of military horsemanship.
