Siroua Shades is a tribute to the generational craft that inspired us to start Salam Hello. Woven in Ait Moulay Ali, many of the artisans led by Fadma originated in the Siroua region near Tazenakht, an area renowned for its deep weaving heritage. They later moved closer to Marrakech in search of more opportunities, carrying their craft with them. Crafted entirely by hand using ancestral tools and 100% natural Siroua wool, the process begins high in the mountains, where the wool is sheared by hand and washed in the clear waters of the Zat River using only Moroccan black soap. From there, it reaches our master dyer, who works exclusively with natural henna to create a nuanced spectrum of warm, earthen tones that mirror the volcanic terrain and sunbaked palette of the Siroua Mountains. These rugs are more than traditional pile knot pieces. They utilize a rare Amazigh knotting technique called Tighonjjaj. Developed in the Siroua region to withstand harsh mountain winters while showcasing generational artistry, Tighonjjaj requires twisting each strand before knotting, adding time and skill to every piece. Today, this technique has become increasingly rare and is preserved by only a few master weavers who continue to pass this knowledge from mother to daughter. This design is named Agraw (ⴰⴳⵔⴰⵡ), a Tamazight word meaning “assembly” or “gathering,” reflecting the spirit of community woven into each piece.
