A Practical Guide to Labour Ordinance of Sarawak by T. Balasubramaniam | 2026* Author T. Balasubramaniam Publication Date 2026 ISBN 9789674572167 Format Softcover Publisher CLJ Publication The Labour Ordinance of Sarawak (Amendment) Act 2025 came into effect on 1 May 2025. From that date, the Minister of Human Resources revised the First Schedule, expanding the scope of the Labour Ordinance of Sarawak (LOS) from employees earning not more than RM2,500 to all individuals employed under a contract of service. This marked a significant development that extended protection to all employees in Sarawak. At the same time, employers’ interests were protected by restricting entitlement to overtime pay, work on rest days and public holidays, and termination benefits to employees earning not more than RM4,000, as well as those engaged in manual labour, drivers and mechanics of mechanically propelled vehicles, supervisors of manual labourers, recruiters, ship officers, and domestic servants. One of the most important benefits now available to all employees, regardless of salary level, is access to the Labour Court. The Labour (Part-Time Employees) (Sarawak) Rules 2013 and the Labour (Termination and Lay-Off Benefits) (Sarawak) Rules 2008 are also explained with practical illustrations and relevant case law. Another notable feature of this book is the inclusion of more than 60 frequently asked questions (FAQs) on the LOS, complete with answers designed to help readers apply the law to practical issues commonly encountered in HR practice.
