The monk holds a walking stick topped with a sterling silver bat and suspended with a coin finished in 24K gold leaf, while a prayer bead necklace highlighted with gold leaf rests across the figure, symbolising meditation and spiritual practice. Turquoise earring studs further accent the sculpture, which is mounted upon a black granite base. The composition balances sculptural presence with symbolic detailing, combining teak, silver, gold leaf, turquoise, and stone into a richly layered decorative object. Both monumental and contemplative, the piece is designed as a timeless interior sculpture with strong artistic and spiritual character. The teak root was sourced from some of the finest teak plantations in Java, Indonesia, a region known for producing exceptionally high-grade teak due to its ideal growing conditions. Teak, derived from the tropical hardwood species Tectona grandis, is native to South and Southeast Asia and is highly valued for its durability and water resistance. Its naturally high oil content gives it one of the highest decay resistances among all natural wood products. Historically used in yacht building, architecture, and fine furniture, teak is also prized by artists and sculptors for its strength and ability to support intricate carving. Lotus Arts de Vivre works with naturally formed teak branches, roots, and driftwood, further hand-carving each piece to give the wood a second life through sculptural design.
