Magician Zoanthids Coral Overview Magician Zoanthids are a high-contrast Zoanthus sp. strain known for bold reddish-orange to deep red tones, a bright green mouth, and pale speckling that can stand out strongly under blue reef lighting. They make a strong choice for reef keepers who want a colorful zoa frag with eye-catching patterning in a small footprint. Magician Zoanthids grow as an encrusting, mat-forming colony and can gradually spread across nearby rockwork or frag surfaces. Every Zoa frag is backed by our minimum frag size guarantee of at least 3 polyps. Care Requirements Magician Zoanthids are generally adaptable and suitable for a wide range of established reef aquariums. Start new frags in lower to moderate light and moderate, indirect flow, then adjust placement gradually based on polyp extension, coloration, and overall response. Like most zoanthids, they do best with stable salinity, temperature, alkalinity, calcium, magnesium, nitrate, and phosphate. For reef keepers looking to maintain consistent major elements, a balanced system such as Hydroshock 3-Part Complete System can support long-term reef stability. Lighting: Low to moderate, with gradual acclimation to stronger light if needed Flow: Low to moderate, indirect flow Placement: Lower to mid areas of the reef to start Growth Form: Encrusting, mat-forming zoanthid colony Care Level: Beginner to intermediate in a stable reef system Feeding & Nutrition Magician Zoanthids rely primarily on photosynthesis, but they can benefit from a nutrient-balanced reef environment and the availability of fine suspended foods. Heavy direct feeding is not required, and cleaner, consistent water quality is usually more important than aggressive feeding. In established systems, live plankton and microbial support can help maintain a more complete reef food web. Options such as Rhodomonas Live Phytoplankton, Isochrysis Live Phytoplankton, and Palustris Live Bacteria - Bacto Fuel can support overall reef nutrition and microbial stability. Known Sensitivities Zoanthids can remain closed for a period after shipping, dipping, relocation, or sudden changes in light, flow, salinity, or alkalinity. This is not unusual, especially for freshly moved frags. Avoid placing new zoanthid frags directly in intense light or harsh direct flow. Give the coral time to settle before making repeated placement changes, and keep enough room around the colony for future growth. Shipping & Arrival Guarantee Your Magician Zoanthids frag will be packed carefully for transit and shipped with attention to seasonal conditions. We stand behind the condition of our livestock on arrival through our Arrive Alive Guarantee. For shipping methods, livestock shipping days, and delivery expectations, please review our shipping page. Temporary closure after arrival is normal while the frag adjusts to its new environment.
