Wolf Blade Katana - Ghost of Yotei Atsu’s Sword

Description The Wolf Blade Katana belongs to the Soul of Mount Yotei collection. Its 72 cm blade is forged from T10 high carbon tool steel and traditionally clay tempered (土置き). The differential heat treatment forms a visible hamon and gives the cutting edge a hardness of approximately HRC 60, while the spine remains more flexible. A Maru-dome Bo-hi (棒樋 丸止) is carved into both sides of the blade, ending in a rounded curve just before the Habaki. The groove removes some weight from the blade and helps bring the sword's weight without the Saya to 1040 grams. With correct edge alignment, it can also produce the audible Tachikaze associated with a clean swing. The wolf theme continues through the solid brass fittings, which have an aged finish. The openwork Tsuba shows two wolves, while the Kojiri at the end of the Saya is shaped like a wolf's head. The wooden Saya is finished in glossy black lacquer and fitted with a genuine fur accent panel and white woven Sageo. On the Tsuka, black cotton Ito is wrapped over genuine white rayskin. Two bamboo Mekugi pins secure the full tang.
