2024 Saperavi, Tbilvino Georgian Valleys, Kakheti, Georgia
A modern expression of Georgia’s flagship red grape, this Saperavi from Tbilvino combines the depth and character of Kakheti with a polished, fruit-driven style that highlights the variety’s naturally vibrant personality. Tasting Notes: Deep purple in colour with an expressive nose of blackcurrant, blackberry and ripe cherry, layered with subtle hints of sweet spice. The palate is full-flavoured and generous, combining dark berry fruit with supple tannins and balanced acidity. Rich yet composed, the wine carries impressive depth and freshness through to a long, smooth finish. Winemaking: Produced from carefully selected Saperavi grapes grown in Tbilvino’s vineyards in Vachnadziani and Shashiani in Kakheti. The vineyards sit at around 400 metres above sea level, where varied alluvial and meadow-brown soils contribute both concentration and aromatic complexity. Following hand-harvesting, the grapes undergo gentle crushing and around 20 days of maceration in stainless steel tanks to extract colour, flavour and structure. After malolactic fermentation, the wine is matured primarily in stainless steel, with a portion aged for four months in French oak barrels to add texture and subtle spice. Food Pairing: A versatile red well suited to grilled meats, roast lamb, rich vegetable dishes and smoky barbecue flavours. It also pairs well with hearty stews and mature hard cheeses. ABV: 13%
