Jam + Scones Class

Thursday, May 7th, 11:00 to 2:00 PM Each spring, we welcome guests to our Introduction to Jam-Making Class, celebrating the season with fresh, vibrant strawberries—perfect for creating a bright, flavorful preserve. In this hands-on class, you’ll learn the full jam-making process from start to finish: washing and hulling fruit, cooking and testing for doneness, and safely jarring and storing your finished jam. We place a strong emphasis on home canning safety, ensuring you leave with both confidence and practical skills. Each participant will head home with two jars of freshly made strawberry jam. At the heart of our approach is a commitment to no pectin-added, low-sugar preserving. This traditional method is both a science and an art, allowing the true flavor of the fruit to shine. We hope you enjoy the process as much as the final product. To complement your jam, we’ll also be making what we proudly consider the perfect scone—flaky, rich, and melt-in-your-mouth delicious. Aletha will share her favorite method for creating a truly exceptional scone, designed to be the ideal vessel for a generous spoonful of your homemade jam. This class is taught by Aletha Thomas, founder of Monkeypod Jam and Cooking Kauaʻi. With over 15 years of experience in both home and commercial preservation, she brings deep knowledge, warmth, and a passion for sharing the craft. Age Requirement: Ages 16+ Location: The Cooking Kauai, Provisions Kitchen in Lawai. The exact location will be shared after registering. Refund Policy Due to limited seating and the upfront costs of food and its preparation, our classes are final and non-refundable. Please consider signing up for our classes as you would purchasing a concert ticket- you can always send someone else in your place, but refunds cannot be issued. Alternatively, you may reach out to us, and we will try our best to sell the seats on your behalf. If we do so, a future credit to a scheduled class will be issued. Refunds will only be issued if Monkeypod Jam needs to shut down/cancel events due to unforeseen events or low participation (less than 6). We appreciate your understanding that this is how we maintain our business and provide boutique-style service.
