First Limited Edition Turbine Table
This is the Turbine Table by Degrees of Freedom. A functional sculpture built around authentic midcentury aerospace hardware. The rotating beveled-edge tempered glass top is supported by a flown first-stage axial compressor rotor assembly from a Pratt & Whitney J57 used on the B-52 Stratofortress. Manufactured sometime between 1950 and 1965 and flown prior to 1975, the rotor remains unmodified, retaining its original markings, coatings, wear, and service scars. We sourced five vintage rotor assemblies, so this limited run consists of five serialized pieces. Each one rotor assembly looks slightly different in color and wear, making each table unique. Built from oak, steel, and glass, the piece weighs approximately 160 lb. It is substantial, physically inconvenient, and literally wrapped in blades. If you require your furniture to be soft, forgiving, childproof, assuredly safe, or generally aligned with responsible decisions, this likely isn't the table for you.
