Permanent Magnet Generator 220V–240V Single-Phase AC | Generator Only
A 240V Generator Head. You Supply the Drive & the Sparky. You've got something that turns — a spare engine, a water wheel with a step-up drive, a belt off a tractor's power take-off — and you want mains-voltage AC out of it without buying a whole generator set. This is a single-phase permanent magnet AC generator head, sold as the generator only. It comes wound for 220V, 230V or 240V output, in four sizes the maker rates at 5 kW, 7 kW, 8 kW and 10 kW, at a rated 3000 RPM. Going by the supplier's photos it sits on its own bolt-down foot and has a twin-groove belt pulley on the shaft. Be clear on what it is not. There is no engine, motor or turbine with it — something has to turn it, and turn it fast. At a rated 3000 RPM, a wind rotor or a slow water wheel needs a belt or gear step-up. There is no regulator, inverter or controller in the box, and a permanent magnet generator's voltage and frequency rise and fall with shaft speed, so it is not a plug-in swap for a petrol generator. This puts out mains-level voltage, and that can kill. It's for people with the skills to build a proper drive, guard and frame, and anything that connects to a building's wiring is a licensed electrician's job in Australia and New Zealand. One more thing before you buy. The supplier's own photos show a nameplate on this generator reading 220V, 3000 W and 1500 RPM, which doesn't match the 5 kW to 10 kW and 3000 RPM on their spec sheet. We can't tell you which is right, so treat every output figure on this page as the maker's claim, not ours. Delivery is free. It ships from the supplier overseas, and their own estimate is about 4 to 18 days from the day you order to Australia, and about 35 days to New Zealand. What it Solves Engine-Driven Power Build: you've got a spare engine and want to belt-drive your own 240V generator set. Micro-Hydro with a Step-Up: a creek-fed station with a water wheel or turbine belted or geared up to the generator's speed. Workshop Rebuild: the head on a home-built set has had it, and you want a generator-only replacement. Remote Shed or Hut: a place off the grid where you'd rather build a set than buy one — wired in by a licensed electrician. Test Rig or Training Bench: a workshop or training project that needs a real single-phase AC generator on a bench. Key Features Permanent Magnet Field: rare-earth NdFeB magnets, as stated by the supplier, so there is no field winding to excite and no brushes to wear. Single-Phase AC Output: wound for 220V, 230V or 240V, chosen at order. The winding is fixed. Rated at 3000 RPM: the maker's rated speed. Every output figure applies at that speed. Four Sizes: the maker rates them at 5 kW, 7 kW, 8 kW and 10 kW. Belt Pulley Fitted: a twin-groove belt pulley on the shaft, going by the supplier's photos. Bolt-Down Foot: a foot base with slotted holes, so it can be bolted to a frame and the belt tensioned. Aluminium Alloy Body: a finned aluminium alloy case on a stainless steel shaft, as stated by the supplier. Class H Insulation: as printed on the maker's spec sheet. Not After Mains Voltage? If you're charging a battery bank from wind or water, a generator wound for 12V, 24V or 48V is the simpler path, and it turns far slower than this one: Low-RPM Permanent Magnet Generator: three-phase, rated by the maker at 500 RPM, for home-built vertical turbines. Permanent Magnet Dynamo: three-phase, rated by the maker at 750 RPM, 2000W to 7000W. The Rest of the Electrical Range: bus bars, breakers, isolators, cable, lugs and Anderson plugs for the DC side of a system. Q & A Can I Plug Appliances Straight into it? No. There's no regulator, so the voltage and frequency move with the shaft speed. Running appliances or feeding a building needs proper control and protection, designed and connected by a licensed electrician. Can I Put it on a Wind Turbine? Not directly. The maker rates it at 3000 RPM, and a wind rotor turns far slower than that. For charging batteries from wind, the low-RPM permanent magnet generator or the permanent magnet dynamo is the better fit. What do I Need to Drive it? Something that can hold it near its rated speed under load — an engine on a belt, or a water turbine with a step-up drive. The maker prints a starting torque of under 19.3 Nm for the 5 kW, 20.1 Nm for the 8 kW and 21.2 Nm for the 10 kW, and no figure for the 7 kW. The power your drive needs is not published, so size it with someone who builds these. Why does the Nameplate in the Photos Say 3000 W? We don't know. The supplier's photos show a label reading 220V, 3000 W and 1500 RPM, while their spec sheet says 5 kW to 10 kW at 3000 RPM. We haven't tested one, so we're not going to pick a side for you — treat the kW figures as the maker's claim. Which Output Voltage Should I Order? Australian and New Zealand mains is 230V nominal. Pick the winding with the electrician who will connect it, to match whatever it's feeding. Do you Sell the Motor & Drive Package? No. The supplier also sells this generator turned by a mains electric motor and speed drive. A mains motor turning a generator uses more power than the generator makes, so we only sell the generator head. Is it Weatherproof? The maker's spec sheet prints IP54, which we haven't verified. Keep it under cover, with air around it. Is it Certified for Use in Australia? We hold no Australian or New Zealand electrical approval or certificate for it, and we make no certification claim. Your electrician decides how it can be connected. How Long will Delivery Take? Delivery is free. It comes from the supplier overseas, and their own estimate is about 4 to 18 days from the day you order to Australia, and about 35 days to New Zealand. Outside Australia, any import duty or tax charged on arrival is yours.
