RIFT
The RIFT chair by Moulay Hafid Sdikiene is part of Halocline (2026), a collection examining how distinct materials meet, resist, and remain separate within a single structure. The work is produced through a combination of digital modelling, sand casting, and hand finishing, with surfaces intentionally retaining grinding, sanding, and welding marks as part of a controlled finish. The chair is constructed from cast aluminium elements assembled into a compact, load-bearing form. The vertical back structure introduces a rigid rhythm, while the granular surface of the cast metal absorbs light and emphasises material density. Each junction remains visible, reinforcing the logic of assembly rather than concealment.
