Wapsi Ultra Thread 70 Denier gives fly tiers a thin, strong tying thread that lays exceptionally flat, helping you keep bulk to a minimum while still providing enough strength to securely tie materials in place. Made from smooth nylon and lightly waxed, Ultra Thread 70 is especially useful when tying smaller flies or anytime a clean, low-profile thread base and head are important. Its flat construction helps prevent unnecessary buildup as you make additional wraps, making it a great choice for small baitfish patterns, teasers, shrimp flies, small crab patterns, thread-bodied flies, midges, nymphs, and other detailed flies. For saltwater tiers, it is particularly handy when tying smaller flies for species such as striped bass, false albacore, bonito, Spanish mackerel, and other fish feeding on tiny forage. When the fish are keyed in on small spearing, bay anchovies, shrimp, or small crustaceans, sometimes downsizing the entire presentation includes downsizing the thread. Ultra Thread 70 has an approximate 1 lb breaking strength and is recommended by Wapsi for flies in the size 14 through 32 range. Each spool contains 100 yards of thread, so one spool will handle plenty of time at the vise before you need another.
