Chateau Mouton Rothschild is one of Boreaux's legendary First growths, and the only one to be classified in the 20th century. Their Pauillac estate is located on the famous Plateau de Mouton, where deep gravels soils lend a unique graphite aroma and an incredible structure to the wines produced there. Motuon also has a long tradition of meticulous vineyard selection, technological inovation. 2022 was an exceptionally hot and dry vintage in Bordeaux, with abundant sunshine and very little rainfall. This led to small richly concentrated fruit, and shifted the balance of the blend towards Cabernet Sauvignon, making up a whopping 92%, and the rest Merlot. Following harvest, careful sorting employing optical sorters (Machinery which employs infrared light to "read" each individual grape and then rejects those not meeting criteria), the wine is fermented and then matured in 100% new French oak barrels. The nose is profound with classic cassis, blackberries, plums, pencil shavings, violets, and the list could truly go on. On the palate, we see the power with an enormous concentration, polished tannins, which coat the palate with a velvet texture. Full bodied, with a finish that showcases the finesse, mineral, graphite, cedar, cocoa and slight herbal aromas. This is a long-haul Mouton with the structure to evolve over decades, in its current youth expect explosions of fruit and chocolate; With bottle age the ostentatious fruit mellows into tobacco, truffle, leather, and increasingly comlex tertiary aromas. Enjoy this wine now with a gentle 8-hr decant in the bottle, or pour into a decanter for around 2-hrs. Ideally, lay this bottle down for at least 15 years.
