Vintage Hand-Stitched Kanduri Appliqué Wall Hanging
A handmade appliqué textile, believed to be a Kanduri shrine cloth from Uttar Pradesh, northern India. Rows of elephants, horsemen and stylised figures surround a central arch. Individually cut fabric shapes are hand-sewn onto a cloth background, with golden-yellow embroidery adding outlines and decorative details. Its bold, graphic composition and visible hand stitching make this a beautiful piece of textile art, framed by a warm terracotta border. Shows marks, and light discolouration, loose threads and wear. Please see the detailed photographs. Dimensions: circan 151 cm × 94 cm
