Yellow Wrasse MED

Yellow Wrasse (Halichoeres chrysus / Canary Wrasse) The Yellow Wrasse is a bright, energetic and highly popular marine wrasse, instantly recognisable by its intense yellow colouration. Active throughout the day, it constantly investigates rockwork and substrate for small prey and can be a useful addition to reef aquariums thanks to its natural hunting behaviour. Compatibility: Peaceful to semi-aggressive. Generally compatible with clownfish, tangs, angelfish, gobies, blennies and other peaceful community species. Usually one of the more accommodating Halichoeres wrasses, although individuals may show territorial behaviour towards similar wrasses. Reef Compatibility: Reef-safe with caution. Safe with corals and generally suitable for reef aquariums, but larger individuals may consume very small shrimp, snails, worms and other tiny invertebrates. Diet: Carnivore – offer a varied diet including mysis shrimp, enriched brine shrimp, copepods, finely chopped prawn and quality marine pellets or frozen preparations. It will also naturally forage throughout established rockwork for small crustaceans and other organisms. Water Parameters: Temperature: 24–27°C Salinity: 1.023–1.026 SG pH: 8.1–8.4 Minimum Tank Size: 150L Care Level: Easy to Moderate – generally hardy once established and readily accepts prepared foods. Requires good water quality, mature rockwork and a suitable sand bed. Top Tip: Provide a fine sand bed several centimetres deep, as Yellow Wrasses naturally bury themselves at night and when frightened. They are also excellent jumpers, so a secure, tightly fitting aquarium lid is essential.
