Paw-Paw Plant | Asimina triloba 'Sunflowers'

Made popular by a certain Disney sloth bear who shall remain nameless, the paw paw plant is a fruit plant many people overlook or think they can't grow in the UK. Guess what? You can! Native to the US, 'Sunflowers' has an RHS hardiness rating of H4, meaning it can tolerate temperatures down to -10°C which will see it through the majority of British winters. Slow-growing and self-fertile, this paw-paw variety sports attractive maroon flowers at the end of spring, before going on to bear large green fruits from late summer and into early autumn. The fruits have a wonderfully aromatic, tropical flavour with a creamy, buttery texture; they're perfect both for eating fresh from the tree and for use in baked desserts. Easily kept to more compact dimensions, this plant is a great option for growing on a sunny patio in a large container.
