🎭❤️ Paris, 1890. The night is only beginning. Electric lights glow across the boulevards. Music spills from crowded cabarets. Absinthe is poured in smoky cafés, performers take to the stage and the streets of Montmartre are plastered with bold illustrated posters promising spectacle, romance, pleasure and adventure. Decadence Tarot is a 78-card deck inspired by 1890s Paris nightlife, the Moulin Rouge and the dramatic French poster art associated with artists such as Toulouse-Lautrec. Every card transforms traditional tarot symbolism into a little piece of Paris after dark. The Lovers meet beneath the lights of the Moulin Rouge. The Chariot becomes a roaring Grand Prix racing car. The Wheel of Fortune spins at the roulette table. Temperance carefully mixes a drink. And The Devil, naturally, is waiting with a glass of absinthe. The same idea continues throughout the Minor Arcana, where vintage advertisements, café scenes, theatre posters, railway timetables, perfume, newspapers, performers and the everyday pleasures and temptations of Paris become part of the tarot story. The result is a deck filled with romance, ambition, temptation, glamour, heartbreak, pleasure and excess, all wrapped in the bold typography and striking colours of vintage French advertising art. Beneath the spectacle is a complete traditional tarot structure, so the deck remains familiar and intuitive to read. French card titles give Decadence its unmistakably Parisian character, while English keywords provide an immediate guide to the meaning of each card. There is plenty of beauty here, but Decadence isn't interested in behaving itself. This is Paris when the respectable world has gone to bed. The theatres are still open.
