The Goblins - One-Time Box Purchase

In October 2026, subscribers encountered the Goblins. The Goblins of Birdmoss are notable for their nomadic lifestyle, as they travel from place to place and set up temporary shops. Skilled woodworkers, metalsmiths, and weavers, they craft with inherited tools and take great pride in their handiwork. The annual Goblin Market begins only after there’s a freeze upon the branches, but the Goblins begin their preparations in earnest when the leaves begin to turn. They meet up in a Forest clearing to put the finishing touches on their wares. These weeks are also a time to reconnect with their cousins and patch the awnings of their bowtop wagons. The caravans are multipurpose, serving as vehicles, homes, shops, and workrooms. A visitor to their encampment is struck by the scent of woodsmoke, the clink of chimes, and the glint of glass and polished stones. The Goblins Box includes an abundance of beautiful objects; hints and additions to expand the story; a mysterious document; and a lore card. Some items are available for individual purchase. Mysterious Document An instructional document is augmented with marginalia which will help you interpret clues. It is available only in the Goblins. Lore Card The Goblins is introduced in a full-color collectible 4x6 inch lore card. The artwork for this month's lore card was created by Joanna Rzepecka, a Warsaw, Poland-based illustrator. She says, "My work is inspired by biodiversity, mainly animals. Through my work, I'm trying to capture moments where nature is untouched by humans. Peaceful scenery, colors, and rough textures are some things that I enjoy the most." Offering to the Current When you Dream to the Goblins’ encampment, you are met by the scent of woodsmoke from their stoves and bonfires. The fires are functional, of course, but the light haze they produce is also a contribution to the Current: the inevitable flow of air, weather, and events. Minute particles encapsulate emotions, intentions, and fragrances; the Current carries those particles from one end of Birdmoss to the other. On afternoons when the Goblins don’t need to light a fire, they’ll burn twists of cedarwood rope incense on fireproof plates. Dish of Eddies The wagons overflow with tools, materials, and the stuff of daily life. Almost every family owns a bowl decorated with radiating spirals. This imagery is a reference to the invisible swirls of the Current. Because every item in the crowded caravans needs to serve several purposes, this dish can be used not only for meals, but as a burn plate for incense, as a money bowl, and as a place to corral trinkets. Shopkeeper’s Bell The woodworkers and metalsmiths among the Goblins collaborate to craft neat little bells that are mounted on the doors of the wagons. Their chiming announces customers and visitors. From a distance, the traveling convoy sounds like a tinkling music box. The bells can also operate as a kind of pendulum-powered singing bowl, helping to clear the environment when the Goblins set up camp. Glittering Supplies A Goblin woman notices your curiosity and invites you to join her at her handiwork. She shows you how to stud ornaments with bright cabochons. Some might find this minute work tedious, but she encourages you to view it as a meditative practice. Shaping Knife Your host introduces you to her neighbor. He’s whittling small animals from a block of soap. He offers you the gift of a knife which has been quickened with a sigil. “Some knives destroy, and some knives create. This one rearranges matter so you can find the heart of things. It reveals shapes hidden inside the material. It can reveal the scent inside an apple.” Mysterious Guise As evening falls, it’s time for the Masquerade. The Goblins put down their tools and some then pick up flutes and mandolins. You’re given a black lace mask so you can join the dance. Your host says “The notion of guising crept into our Dreams a few generations ago. We’re a small community and we all know each other so well. The Masquerade lets us try on new stories and see each other in new ways.” Photo props are not included.
