Pisano - Río de los Pájaros Tannat Syrah Viognier - 2021
This wine from the Río de los Pájaros range comes from Progreso, in the department of Canelones, where the Pisano family has grown vines since 1914 on a clay-limestone plateau above Montevideo. The climate is tempered by the Río de la Plata and the Atlantic Ocean: the days are sunny and sea breezes cool the vines, preserving the balance and liveliness of the grapes. The blend brings together 55% Tannat, the estate's speciality, 40% Syrah and 5% Viognier, the latter two varieties having been introduced by Daniel Pisano on his return from his travels. After fermentation, the wine is aged for six months in French oak barrels, an ageing that brings roundness while remaining perfectly integrated with the fruit. This wine reveals notes of prune, blackberry, black cherry, violet, white flowers, liquorice, cinnamon, black pepper and leather. The palate is balanced and fleshy, with well-integrated freshness and oak, and a harmonious finish with fruity, spicy accents.
