Positions the camera exactly parallel to the original: Use the ball joint to compensate for the stand’s minimal flex, which is precisely why the Copy Stand has no fixed camera mount, but instead uses a 3/8" screw. Screws onto the Copy Stand without an adapter: 3/8" mounting thread on the bottom, 1/4" camera screw on top. The combination expected by practically every DSLR and mirrorless camera. This is intentional: every copy stand flexes by a few tenths of a millimeter under the weight of the camera and lens, even the most stable one. A tripod head between the stand and camera compensates for this. Turn the joint until the sensor is exactly parallel to the negative, then tighten it. Without this adjustment, one side will be sharp and the other won’t. If you already have a tripod, you don’t need this head: unscrew the existing ball or geared head and attach it to the Copy Stand. It is intended for anyone who doesn’t have a second head lying around or doesn’t want to reconfigure the stand every time. The head is a purchased product, not manufactured in-house.
