Pair of 19th Century Indonesian Carved Hardwood Cabinets

A pair of Indonesian carved hardwood cabinets in the Indo-Dutch Colonial tradition, combining European Baroque form with the pierced foliate carving characteristic of Javanese workshops. Each cabinet is crowned by an elaborately carved and reticulated crest of scrolling acanthus and floral motifs surmounting a domed cornice. The twin arched panel doors open to a shelved interior, flanked by carved pilasters with scrolling foliate ornament. The base section features a carved frieze above a shaped and foliate-carved apron, raised on cabriole legs terminating in well-defined ball and claw feet. Constructed from a dense tropical hardwood, likely teak or a related indigenous timber, with panelled sides and hand-cut joinery consistent with 19th century colonial cabinetmaking. The rich patina, honest wear, and depth of hand carving throughout speak to the quality of the original workshop.
