A piece of Italian earthenware that has earned its age — the kind of object that settles into a kitchen or onto a table without effort, whether it holds fruit, bread, or nothing at all.Thick-walled stoneware, beige glaze aged into a fine web of crazing — the glaze contracting over decades, not damage. Age has left each piece its own marbling; no two are identical. Smooth to the touch despite the visual texture. Simple and generous at 21 cm across, 7 cm deep. Stamped underneath by Società Ceramica Italiana.The house was founded at Laveno on Lake Maggiore and became one of Italy's principal earthenware producers, supplying households and restaurants into the twentieth century.
