VINTAGE 1969 OMEGA SPEEDMASTER MARK 2 CHRONOGRAPH CALIBRE 861 WATCH. This super 0mega Speedmaster mark 2 model ‘145.014’ though clearly well used, is in very nice condition considering the age of the watch. Housed inside the stainless steel water-proof case we find the Omega calibre 861 manual winding movement, the very same movement used in the Speedmaster moon-watch of the same era. Manufactured in 1969 by the serial number 31002412 engraved on the movement. The movement is in excellent condition from what we can see, clearly having not been interfered with by amateurs in the past. Working well, winds and sets as it should. The chronograph starts promptly and snaps back to zero sharply as it should. Winding and setting as it should. There are a number of servicing marks inscribed inside the back, indicating that it has been well maintained and well looked after in the past. The case is in very nice condition, retaining the correct brushed / polished finish with nice sharp edges to the chamfers etc. The top of the case still retains the brushed ‘sunburst’ finish, with just some light marks and scratching which it has acquired over the years. Measures 41.5mm across the bezel not including the crown and 46mm tip-to-tip. Fully marked Omega inside the back with individual model number 145.014. The original dial is very, very nice indeed and it is one of the best Speedmaster dials that we have encountered, although the tritium lume no longer glows. The white hands are the originals also. The glass is in good condition, with none of the usual scratches and just one tiny edge chip. There is a little discolouration to tachymeter ring under the glass (this part of the glass and printed on the underside). The winding crown and pushers are original to the watch and still in excellent condition also. The back and hippocampus symbol is still highly visible, with just a little light scratching and wear from mild use over the years. The bracelet is the original item and is still in very good condition. The clasp snapping closed firmly as it should and will fit up to a 7 & 1/2 inch wrist. (we can obtain extra links at the buyers request). The watch comes complete with both original Omega presentation box. Good Speedmasters are getting very hard to find now you will no doubt be aware and this is a particularly nice example.
