The Construction Area: A Progressive Journey for Reception and Year 1

This Reception and Year 1 Construction Area progression journey has been designed as a shared, non-linear approach to learning through construction play. Children enter the construction area with different experiences, interests and ideas. One child may carefully plan, test and refine a complex structure, while another explores by stacking, connecting, balancing, taking apart and rebuilding. Both are developing important knowledge, skills and understanding through play. Construction play grows richer and more purposeful over time.
