Ivar Holth Norway Sterling Enamel Retro Modernist Necklace Circa 1940's/1950's Measurements: 15.75"L x .6"W (40.01cm x 1.52cm) Markings: 925S Maker's Mark Sterling Norway Weight: 32.2g Stunning vintage Norwegian sterling silver and cobalt-blue guilloché enamel necklace by noted Oslo silversmith Ivar T. Holth, dating to approximately the late 1940s–1950s. The necklace is composed of a repeating series of graceful, sculptural S-shaped links, each crafted in gilded sterling silver and filled with luminous royal/cobalt-blue translucent enamel. Beneath the enamel is a finely engraved guilloché pattern that catches the light beautifully, creating wonderful movement and depth as the necklace is worn. The flowing abstract design has a distinctly Scandinavian Modernist character with lingering Art Deco influence, combining strong geometric form with elegant sweeping curves. Ivar T. Holth established his Oslo silversmith workshop in 1943 and became particularly known for beautifully crafted sterling silver and enamel jewelry. Holth pieces are highly recognizable for their sophisticated Scandinavian design and exceptionally vibrant guilloché enamel work. The necklace remains in excellent vintage condition, with no observed chips, cracks, losses or repairs to the enamel. There is some age-related fading and wear to the original gilded finish, particularly along exposed areas of the sterling, consistent with a piece of this age. The brilliant enamel is highly glossy and reflective; any white lines or bright areas visible in the photographs are primarily reflections rather than damage. A superb example of mid-century Norwegian enamel jewelry, with exceptional color, rhythmic sculptural design and beautifully preserved enamel. Circa late 1940s–1950s.
