A Low Free Form Table, in the Manner of José Zanine Caldas, Brazil c. 1960s

Two irregular slabs of solid tropical hardwood, book-matched and joined along their live edges with an exposed butterfly key, raised on low cylindrical turned feet. The naturally undulating perimeter and continuous growth-ring figuring across the join underscore the sculptural, organic approach to furniture pioneered by Zanine and his contemporaries in mid-century Brazilian design. Solid hardwood, patinated surface consistent with age. Condition: age-appropriate wear; natural checking to the wood consistent with solid-timber construction and humidity fluctuations over time, stabilized in places by the butterfly joinery.
