Network audio processor with Dirac Live room correction The miniDSP SHD is a network streamer and digital preamplifier with an integrated DSP processor, designed as the processing core of a hi-fi or home cinema system. It combines Dirac Live room correction, Roon Ready certified multi-platform network playback and 32-bit audiophile converters for a fully controlled signal from end to end. A single solution to stream, correct room acoustics and precisely drive your speakers and subwoofer. Connectivity and design The SHD centralises all of your sources: 3 digital inputs (USB Audio, AES-EBU, SPDIF, Toslink optical) and 2 stereo analogue inputs (balanced XLR, unbalanced RCA). On the output side, it offers 4 digital outputs (SPDIF on RCA) and 4 analogue outputs (balanced XLR, unbalanced RCA), each driven by the DSP. The heart of the processing relies on a 32-bit floating-point SHARC ADSP21489 processor running at 450 MHz, supported by an AKM AK5574 ADC and an ESS9028 DAC delivering 120 dB of measured dynamic range and 0.0003% THD+N. A front-panel OLED display (white or black), an infrared remote control and real-time control via the miniDSP Device Console app (OTA updates) complete the package. The chassis is supplied with a 1U (19") rack mounting kit. Network streaming and software compatibility A dedicated quad-core ARM processor handles network playback and makes the SHD a genuine open network streamer. Roon Ready certified, it also supports the Volumio player (web access to your local library, USB stick and internet radio), Tidal and Tidal Connect, Spotify and Spotify Connect, as well as Qobuz. The supplied 2.4 GHz USB WiFi adapter makes installation easy with no cabling constraints. A USB audio recording function also lets you capture the 4 processed output channels, for example to digitise your vinyl records. Dirac Live room correction and DSP tools The SHD integrates Dirac Live 3.x with an included full range licence (20 Hz - 20 kHz) tied to the hardware (hardware locked). Thanks to the supplied calibrated UMIK-1 measurement microphone, the room correction analyses and corrects the response of your listening room for a more precise soundstage and controlled bass. The in-house DSP toolbox goes further with a 10-band parametric equaliser per channel, crossover filters up to 48 dB/octave, a compressor/limiter and a flexible 2x4 mixing matrix. Up to 4 filter configurations can be saved directly on the device. Use cases and system integration Designed as a central preamplifier/processor, the miniDSP SHD fits just as well into a high-end hi-fi system as into a home cinema setup or a studio/monitoring context. Its DSP tools allow fine integration of one or more subwoofers, multi-way active speakers and a room correction system tailored to the room, while offering full multi-platform streaming (Roon, Tidal, Spotify, Qobuz).
