1973 BREITLING ‘TOP-TIME’ CHRONOGRAPH WATCH REF 2002 FULL SET BOX & PAPERS. Pump-pusher Breitling’s are very much the flavour of the month at the moment and this example does not disappoint. Purchased new fro from W. Hinds the jeweller’s in Brighton. This 1973 example is quite late in production, the ‘top-time’ range first being introduced in 1964. The waterproof stainless steel case measures 36.5mm across the bezel, not including the crown and 43mm tip-to-tip. This is the single-piece case model 2002 and the movement is removed through the top of the watch once the glass has been removed, using a delicate split-stem system for removal of the winding crown and stem. These cases are particularly difficult to open without the correct tools and there is usually evidence of this in the form of scratches around the periphery of the dial and telemeter ring. Not so with this example. The original matt-black reverse-panda dial is in first class condition, absolutely immaculate in every respect, including the luminous dots. This is the ‘reverse-panda configuration, all black with silvered subsidiary dials and white printing. Wide polished baton markers and the matching luminous filled hands and baton divisions contrast beautifully with the dial (though they have long since lost their luminosity). The original red chronograph hand is still present. The Valjoux 7733 hand wound chronograph movement is in excellent order and running well. Winding and setting as it should. The centre chronograph hand snapping back exactly to zero each time. The original ‘Breitling’ winding split-stem crown is still present. The rest of the watch being in outstanding condition given it’s age, with just a little light scratching to the back from minimal use over the years. Unusually complete, a full-set with the original box, warranty certificate from Hinds of Brighton dated 18/9/73 and world service booklet. This is a watch that is highly sought after at the moment and a rare find in this wonderful original condition.
