They grab with the front paws, pull it in to the chest, sink their teeth in, and kick with the back legs until they are finished. Most toys are too small to hold on to. The Floof is about 15 by 10 cm, big enough that the grab, the bite and the kick all land on the same toy. Catnip is the one most cats already know. Not every cat responds to Catnip, so Valerian root is in there too, to give those cats something else to react to.
