Faustina junior lived c. 130–175 CE. She was empress from 145–175 CE as the wife of Emperor Marcus Aurelius. One of Rome's most influential empresses, she was celebrated for accompanying her husband on military campaigns and for her role as the mother of a large imperial family, earning the title Mater Castrorum ("Mother of the Camp"). Coins depicting Faustina the Younger sometimes feature Artemis, the Greek goddess of the hunt, wilderness, and the moon, symbolizing strength, independence, and the protective spirit associated with both the goddess and the empress.
