A Pair of Murano Glass Table Lamps, Barovier and Toso Style
A Pair of Murano Glass Table Lamps, Barovier and Toso Style Each of tapering fusée form, the twist-moulded body worked in white opaline glass with applied gold-dust inclusions arranged in spiralling ribbons, raised on a circular giltwood-effect turned base; fitted with later parchment-coloured empire shades. The elongated, faceted silhouette and controlled spiral striping are characteristic of Murano's mid-century output associated with makers such as Barovier & Toso and Seguso, whose fusée- and dagger-form lamp bases became a hallmark of Italian glassmaking exported widely through the 1950s–60s for the American and European decorating trade. The gold aventurine-style inclusion within the white ground is a technique long associated with the island's furnaces, prized for the way it catches light along the twisted body.
