Parodia turecekiana

Parodia turecekiana is a rare and wonderfully characterful cactus with a compact, rounded body and beautifully defined ribs covered in clusters of fine spines. Its neat, almost symmetrical appearance gives it plenty of visual interest while still keeping that slightly wild and wonderfully spiky character we love about Parodia. Native to South America, this species remains relatively compact and is a great choice for sunny windowsills, cactus displays and smaller spaces. As the plant matures, it can produce beautiful flowers from the crown, adding an unexpected splash of colour above its armour of spines. Parodia turecekiana enjoys plenty of bright light and can tolerate direct sunshine once acclimatised. Plant it in a specialist, free-draining cactus compost and water during the growing season only once the compost has dried. During autumn and winter, reduce watering considerably and keep the plant protected from frost and prolonged cold, damp conditions. Easy-going, unusual and satisfyingly spiky, Parodia turecekiana is a lovely addition to a growing cactus collection.
