Noel Harry Leaver was a prolific painter of Orientalist scenes in the first half of the 20th century.. His work was often both cool and still with shaded and brighter areas and shaped and tiled mosques and bridges and a general feel of Islamic picturesqueness. Interspersed are figures chatting, buying, selling, living life surrounded by tradition. The contrast between the serenity and the clamor of such a world is very pleasing.
