Serpentine

Following the Afro-jazz explorations of Trancedance and the meditative Donso n'goni, Christer Bothén returns with a quartet featuring Oren Ambarchi, Johan Berthling and Andreas Werliin. Recorded in rural Sweden in 2023, Serpentine unfolds across four expansive pieces built on looping bass lines, shifting rhythms and Bothén's expressive bass clarinet. The group's long-standing musical chemistry gives the music a natural momentum, while Bothén's Donso n'goni adds a new dimension to the modal improvisations. Drawing on jazz, minimalism and free-form experimentation, Serpentine is a deeply absorbing meeting of four exceptional musicians.
