A Kuro-Karatsu chawan by Mito Rui, a ceramic artist based in Karatsu. Across the upper part of the bowl, golden ash-glaze kiln effects spread softly, while in the lower section a deep blue seems to sink beneath the black surface. The shifting landscape—from yellow-brown into blue—feels like a meeting of light and darkness, giving the bowl a remarkable sense of depth within a single form. The contrast created by the shinogi ridges at the center of the body, together with the moon-like texture produced by scraped carving on the opposite side, adds further complexity to its appearance. Its surface holds both stillness and ruggedness, beautifully echoing Mito’s characteristically hand-friendly form. The subtly carbonized clay around the foot is also full of charm, making this a distinctly cosmic work, very much in keeping with the spirit of Chūwan. Width 12.6cm/Height 7.9cm With the original signed wooden box and matching cloth. (We will ship within 3 business days after completing your order.)
