A finely decorated Japanese Imari porcelain charger of impressive scale, richly ornamented in underglaze cobalt blue, iron-red enamels, and extensive gilt decoration. The broad rim is filled with scrolling chrysanthemum and foliate motifs highlighted in gold, punctuated by alternating medallions depicting a frontal-view shishi (lion-dog) and a profile-view baku, the mythical dream-eating creature associated with protection from evil influences. The central reserve features elegant phoenix birds amid flowering autumn plants and stylized foliage, rendered with delicate linework and gilt accents. The combination of auspicious creatures, phoenix imagery, and luxuriant floral ornament reflects the decorative sophistication and symbolic richness characteristic of high-quality Imari ware. The reverse bears a four-character underglaze blue mark and is further embellished with scrolling designs and iron-red cartouches. A striking display piece showcasing the brilliance of late 19th-century Japanese export porcelain. Age: Meiji Era (circa 1870-1890) Dimensions: 18 5/8″ diameter by 2 1/2″ high
