Carved Presentation Box with Silver and Semi-Precious Stones c. 1845

A presentation box dating c. 1845, curiously made of bog oak having a carved elephant with palanquin on a plinth (the tusks are ivorine) inset with semi-precious stones and silver decoration around the sides set on silver ball and claw feet and having a single drawer. Probably presented to Lestock Robert Reid, Governor of Bombay 1846-47 based on the coat of arms on the front drawer. Ht. 12 1/2”, W. 12 3/4”D. 9 1/2”.
