Rare Vintage Creative Kokeshi By Hiroe Fukushima

this is a rare vintage creative (sosaku) Kokeshi doll crafted by the Japanese artisan Hiroe Fukushima. The wooden doll features a distinctively elegant and minimalist design, characterized by a smooth, elongated body painted in a deep red hue and adorned with beautiful golden floral or chrysanthemum-like patterns. It is topped with a black carved hairstyle framing a serene, hand-painted face. The natural wood grain peeks through at the very base, which is detailed with subtle red linework, perfectly showcasing Fukushima’s signature blend of traditional craftsmanship and creative mid-century flair. Hiroe Fukushima was a Japanese sosaku kokeshi (creative wooden doll) maker active for a relatively short period in the 1970s (approximately 1970–1979).
