Plains Tobacco bag, circa 1850-1880, native tanned elk or buckskin with a quill work panel with pictorial cross elements, trade beads along the opening and edge in pink, red, green, blue and white, fringed at the bottom. Measures 42 ½ inches length x 5 ½ inches width and ⅛ inches depth. The Northern Plains Indian culture group includes the Cree, Sioux (Lakota), Assiniboine, Crow, Blackfeet, Plains, Mandan, Plains Chippewa (Ojibwa), Hidatsa, and Arikara tribes.
