Rectangular Bowl

This rectangular bowl was handcrafted in Mashiko by Shoichi Kamiya using local clay and traditional glazes. The bold blue glaze flowing across the surface creates a striking contrast against the soft pale glaze beneath, giving each piece its own unique character. A versatile bowl for serving side dishes, snacks, or small shared dishes, it adds a touch of color and warmth to the table. Shoichi Kamiya (1948–2014) apprenticed under Living National Treasure Tatsuzo Shimaoka and later spent more than twenty years working in his workshop before establishing his own studio. His pottery reflects the honest beauty of everyday use, shaped by decades of dedication to traditional craftsmanship and a deep respect for the spirit of mingei. Working primarily with local Mashiko clay and glazes made from locally sourced materials, Kamiya created pottery rooted in the landscape and traditions of his hometown.
