Sharing approximately 97% of its DNA with humans, it is one of our closest evolutionary relatives and a key species in the study of human origins—often referred to by locals as the “person of the forest.” These orangutans are typically solitary and primarily frugivorous, with remarkable intelligence and the ability to use tools. However, they reproduce slowly and are now classified as critically endangered. Deforestation and illegal hunting continue to push their survival to the edge. 🦧 This sculpture was created as an “early monument” to the Bornean orangutan. The lifted figure represents both a subject being observed by human civilization and a being worthy of remembrance—caught between vulnerability and reverence.
