Constructed with two spines and a shared back cover, the format encourages nonlinear narratives, hidden imagery, and unexpected visual sequences. In this workshop, students will learn how to bind their own French Door Book using a selection of pre-cut materials, creating a unique and personalized structure. * Prior bookbinding experience is not required, but helpful. About the instructor: Selena Matranga (b. 1991, Manhattan, New York) is a Los Angeles–based artist, bookbinder, and educator whose practice centers on book arts, printmaking, and material experimentation. She received a BFA from Mills College in 2016 and has worked with leading artists’ studios and arts organizations including Charles Gaines Studio, Laura Owens Studio, and Crown Point Press. Alongside her studio practice, she teaches workshops in bookbinding and movable books at The International Print Museum in Carson. Her work has been exhibited in California, New York, and Miami, and she has participated in residencies including Mountain School of Arts and the In Cahoots Residency in Petaluma, California.
