MEXICO - HOME SHIRT 2010 Mexico's national team are one of CONCACAF's true powerhouses, representing a footballing nation whose vibrant green-shirted fanbase fills stadiums from the Estadio Azteca to North American grounds across the United States. Affectionately known as El Tri ("The Tri") for the colours of the Mexican flag, La Tricolor are two-time FIFA World Cup hosts (1970 and 1986) and former Confederations Cup champions, with a remarkable record of reaching the round of 16 at every World Cup from 1994 to 2018. This legacy has been shaped by legendary figures such as Antonio Carbajal, Hugo Sánchez, Jorge Campos, Cuauhtémoc Blanco, and Rafael Márquez, whose brilliance has defined Mexican football across generations. Mexico wore this incredible home shirt at the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa under manager Javier Aguirre, drawn into Group A alongside hosts South Africa, Uruguay and France. El Tri opened the tournament with a 1-1 draw against the South Africans at Soccer City - Rafael Márquez heading in the equaliser after Siphiwe Tshabalala's iconic strike - before delivering a famous 2-0 win over France in Polokwane (Javier "Chicharito" Hernández and Cuauhtémoc Blanco with the goals) to put themselves on course for the knockouts. A 1-0 defeat to Uruguay left Mexico second in the group, but their tournament ended 3-1 to Argentina in the round of 16, in a tie remembered for Carlos Tévez's controversial offside opener. As of 2026, Mexico are once again welcoming the FIFA World Cup to home soil as one of the host nations, with manager Javier Aguirre returning for a third spell as El Tri boss. Mexico have been drawn into Group A alongside Czechia, South Korea and - in a poetic twist - South Africa, the very team they opened the 2010 tournament against. With a squad led by 40-year-old goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa heading to his record - joint with Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi(!) - sixth World Cup, alongside Hirving "Chucky" Lozano, Edson Álvarez and Santiago Giménez, El Tri kick off the entire tournament against Bafana Bafana at the Estadio Azteca on 11 June.
