Penfolds, Cellar Reserve Sangiovese, 2018
Penfolds Cellar Reserve wines are a creative series of limited-production releases crafted beyond the main range — an “experimental playground” for Penfolds winemakers to explore lesser-planted varietals and unique styles. Italian grape most famous in Tuscany (Chianti, Brunello). In this wine, it’s grown in Barossa Valley (South Australia) and vinified with Penfolds’ traditional techniques. Traditionally fermented, often in open fermenters at the historic Magill Estate cellar, then matured in seasoned French oak barriques. Bottled without fining or filtration to retain varietal expression. While Penfolds is best known for iconic shiraz and cabernet-rich blends, the Cellar Reserve range gives Sangiovese a unique platform: the bright acidity and red fruit energy of the variety meet the sun-kissed ripeness of Barossa fruit.
