Gewiss-Ballan was an Italian team founded in 1993. At the 1994 Giro d’Italia, Evgeni Berzin dominated: he seized the pink jersey with a late climb on Stage 4 and wore it for 19 consecutive stages to the finish. He won both individual time trials (Stages 8 and 18), became the first Russian to win the Giro, and also claimed the white jersey as best young rider.
