The LEAK Sandwich 100 Loudspeakers The LEAK Sandwich 100 is the most compact expression of a loudspeaker tradition that began in 1961. When Harold Leak first introduced the original Sandwich design, it solved a problem that had troubled speaker designers for decades: how to make a cone that was simultaneously lightweight and rigid. The answer was to bond aluminium skins to a foam core — the same structural principle used in aircraft construction — creating a diaphragm that could move with exceptional speed and accuracy while resisting the flex and breakup that caused distortion in conventional paper cones. The 2025 Sandwich 100 carries that engineering forward. The 15cm mid/bass driver is built around a Rohacell aircraft-grade structural foam core bonded with aerospace-grade adhesives between aluminium skins — a modern refinement of the original concept. A long-throw motor system with a high-gauss magnet and low-loss suspension ensures linear excursion at higher volumes. The 30mm coated textile dome tweeter is deliberately larger than is typical at this price point, enabling a lower crossover frequency and better power handling. The crossover is set at 2.2kHz using polypropylene capacitors and air-core inductors, developed through extended listening trials with accurate time alignment between drivers as the stated priority. Acoustic design was led by Peter Comeau, IAG's Director of Acoustic Design. Comeau co-founded Heybrook Hi-Fi in 1979 and has overseen acoustic development across Wharfedale, Mission and LEAK since joining the IAG Group.
