Ancient Powers - Original Painting
A moment from Roger's Pass where the setting sun caught the distant glaciers and the transport trucks roared over the TransCanada Highway. I was plein air painting during my residency in Glacier National Park (Canada) when this scene unfolded. I was struck by the contradictions between a National Park with conservation mandates to preserve the last glaciers bisected by a major transportation corridor burning fossil fuels. The title comes from this play of ancient powers - the glaciers fuel the rivers and our hydroelectric systems, while the highway fuels a major part of our economy. 24" x 36" x 1.5" acrylic on canvas with the painting extended around the sides and hanging hardware installed.
