He rejoined and was mobilised in February /April 1916, and lands in France on the 3rd June 1916, and was engaged in the Battle of the Ancre (Somme 1916) The German retreat to the Hindenburg Line (March 1917) The capture of Fifteen Ravine, Villers Plouich, Beaucamp and La Vacquerie (April and early May 1917) The Cambrai Operations, in which the Division participated in the capture of Bourlon Wood (November 1917)5 May 1918 : reduced to cadre strength after suffering heavy casualties. 18 June 1918: Returned to England. He transferred to the 4th battalion K.S.L.I. on the 18th June 1918. About 143 Men transfer from 18th Btn Welsh Regt to 4/KSLI 18th June arriving 24th – 26th June 1918. Demobilisation began in December 1918 and by 18/19 March 1919 the Division ceased to exist. Remaining 4/KSLI Cadre returned to Southampton, England 18th May 1919. He is listed on the Mayford Industrial School roll of honour for his receipt of the Military Medal. His MIC confirms entitlement to a pair for ww1 service.
